Havarti is a relative newcomer to the cheese world, first appearing in Danish markets in the early twentieth century. Since that time it has become a very popular mild table cheese in both Europe and North America. Havarti is a washed-curd cheese, meaning that excess whey, lactose, and salts are removed early in the production process. This results in a mild but intensely creamy, buttery flavor that could not otherwise be achieved. A semi-soft texture and rich, mild flavor make Havarti perfect for grilled or cold sandwiches; it’s also a fine offering as part of a cheese plate. Like Brick, Havarti is a very subtle cheese, and the margin between perfect and unremarkable Havarti is slim. We’re confident that ours is the best you’ll find.
